Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police have collected a whopping Rs 50,60,72,960 combined in the year 2020 and up to August end this year from violators of various traffic rules including not wearing masks in urban police districts of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The information was revealed by the Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra in the State Assembly today.
In a written reply to a query from BJD MLA Souvik Biswal, the Minister has informed that in Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) penalty amounting to Rs 44,71,66,300 has been collected from violators for violations of various traffic rules and non-wearing of masks as per Covid guidelines in the year 2020 and up to end of August this year.
While Rs 25,34,48,100 has been collected from violators for traffic rule violations, Rs 18,04,09,900 has been collected from bikers for not wearing helmets, Rs 1,21,21,500 from drivers of four-wheelers for not wearing seat belts and Rs 11,86,800 from persons not wearing masks in violation of Covid protocol, he added.
Similarly, in Cuttack UPD, a total of Rs 5,89,06,660 was collected from violators for violations of various traffic rules and non-wearing of masks as per Covid guidelines in the year 2020 and up to the end of August this year, the Minister said.
While Rs 3,65,36,500 has been collected from violators for traffic rule violations, Rs 1,41,83,500 has been collected from bikers for not wearing helmets, Rs 1,41,83,500 from drivers of four-wheelers for not wearing seat belts and Rs 79,98,160 from persons not wearing masks in violation of Covid protocol, he added.
