**Nayagarh:** The three Plus II students of a residential college, accused of brutal ragging allegedly meted out to their roommate, besides being rusticated from the college were sent to Angul Juvenile Correction Home on Tuesday.
An FIR was filed at the Nayagarh Town Police on Monday by the victim’s father following which the three accused students had been detained and interrogated by police in connection with the alleged ragging of the Plus II first year student, who is left with several injury marks on his body.
The trio were produced before the Juveline Justice Board on Tuesday afternoon and were sent to Angul Juvenile Correction Home.
“Our Department has directed the Regional Director to initiate actions against the culprits involved in the ragging incident at Divine Residential College in Nayagarh. Now, the three accused have been rusticated and sent to Juvenile Correction Home and action will be taken as per the law,” said Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi.
The matter came to light when the parents of the victim lodged an FIR at Nayagarh Town Police Station on Monday.
Talking to media on earlier on Tuesday, Divine Residential College director Kamalakanta Sahoo said in accordance with the complaint filed and as per direction of the Higher Education Regional Director (RD) on Monday, the three ragging accused students have been rusticated from college as well as the hostel.
The college director also informed that they have intimated the RD about the action taken.
He also informed that the parents of the three students have already been issued notices on Monday.
Meanwhile, the brutally ragged Plus II student Nihar Ranjan Patnaik is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
He was admitted to +2 first year science of the college this June.
In his FIR lodged with the Town police, the victim’s father Himanshu Bhusan Patnaik stated that his son was staying in the college hostel and from day one his son was subjected to intense ragging by his three roommates. They used to thrash and kick him, make him do sit-ups, scratch his thigh with hard combs, bite body parts, punch his face and attack him with glass bottles. At times they would also brand his body with mosquito repellent coil. They also beat him up because he secured more marks in the examination. The three students had warned him of dire consequences if the matter was brought to the notice of the college authorities.
