Bhubaneswar: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was booked for allegedly raping a 26-yar-old woman for over a year after promising to marry her, the police said. The accused was arrested today.
The suspect, Manoj Kumar Mahakud (40) is currently posted at BSF camp near Badatota in Jatni of Khurda district. The woman, meanwhile, worked as an agent for a construction company in Bhubaneswar.
The duo got in touch with each other in 2017 over discussions regarding Mahakud buying a plot, according to the police. The two fell in love and in a few months Mahakud proposed marriage to the survivor.
The woman, in her complaint, said the suspect forcefully maintained physical relations with her on the pretext of marrying her for over a year. She also mentions that without her consent, Mahakud had clicked intimate pictures and videos of them. After a while when she refused to establish physical relations, he threatened her with dire consequences including making the pictures and videos viral.
The complainant filed a complaint against the accused at the Mahila Police Station, Bhubaneswar.
DCP Anup Sahoo confirmed the arrest and added that once the medical examinations are over, statements will be recorded under IPC Section 164.
