Bhubaneswar: After West Bengal Govt claimed its so called victory of GI tag over Rasagolla, Odisha Govt has again claimed its rights over the GI tag. In a press release the Odisha Govt has said that Rasagola has been offered at Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri as part of Religious Rituals since the 12th century by the Odias and accordingly Odisha Government will seek Geographical Indication (GI) registration for 'Odishara Rasagolla'.
Odisha Govt is in the process of obtaining GI for the Odishara Rasagolla which dates back to more than 800 years, the press release added.
Notably, 'Bangal Rasagolla' has been registered with GI on the application by Government of West Bengal. Odisha claims that this only provides GI tag to the 'Banglar Rasogulla' specific to West Bengal and Odi sha would claim its own GI tag for 'Odishara Rasagolla'.
