Bhubaneswar: As Odisha Chief Minister has been laying utmost stress on agriculture and the development of farmers of our State, the State Government’s Cooperative Department has tightened up its belt through its new programme ‘Cooperative At Your Doorstep’ following which each primary cooperative society will lend loan at 1% interest to minimum 10 Joint Liability Groups within the timeline of two months that would even benefit the farmers without having own agricultural land pattas.

This was claimed by the Odisha Cooperative Minister at the State Secretariat here on Wednesday as the Kharif season begins with the onset of monsoon.

Explaining on the ‘Cooperative At Your Doorstep’ programme, Odisha Cooperative Minister Surya Narayan Patro said, While 16% farmers of other states get loan from the Cooperative Society, our State extends to about 60% of the farmers at 1% interest rate. But, there are many farmers in our State who are without own land but agriculture is their occupation. If 4 such farmers join the Joint Liability Group, loan upto Rs 50,000 at 1% interest rate will be provided to them without any surety and guarantee.”

“We have also a provision of ‘e-marketing’. While many food items have minimum support price, some have no minimum support price. Suppose a farmer having produced vegetable, chilly, turmeric, etc and wishes a rate for it from the market. This can be possible now through this e-marketing system. The product may not have the desired price at own locality, but its rate may be high in other states of India. Hence, there will be tender through e-marketing and highest rate will be preferred for sale of the product,” he further explained.

He also informed, “Our Agriculture allied activities are poultry farm, dairy, fishery, etc. Previously one has to cough up 10% against the loan for purchasing a cow. Now no need of any guarantor. Upto Rs 5 lakh, Rs 500 share-holding. More than Rs 5 lakh 10% shareholding. For this purpose, the Hon’ble Chief Minister has allocated Rs 1000 crore.”

He added, “These types of loan now will be provided by our Cooperative Department at the doorstep of the farmers through mass awareness campaign. Within the timeline of two months, each primary cooperative society will lend the loan to minimum 10 Joint Liabilty Groups. We have 2307 such societies. It implies that 23,000 Joint Liability Groups will be extended the farm loan at 1% interest.”

On the Samabaya Samachar he informed, “It is published by the cooperative union that has four training centres. It is monthly. All cooperative-related news will be published in it. It will be dispatched to all areas and regions. Other activities of this union are that the new programmes and schemes being implemented by the Chief Minister are being imparted training in our four training centres.”
