Bhubaneswar: After being cornered by Puri Shankaracharya on Monday and also from own party collgeaue Bijoy Mohapatra on Tuesday, senior BJP leader-cum-former Law Minister of Odisha, Biswa Bhusan Harichanda, defended that there had been no fiasco like Brahma Paribartan or Niladri Bije during his tenure and also termed Bijoy Mohapatra’s caustic comment unfortunate.

Convening a press meet at the Odisha BJP Headquarters here on Wednesday, Harichandan said, “As per Section 33 of the Jagannath Temple Act, the total responsibility has been entrusted with the Temple Administration Committee. Hence, the Committee will be accountable for any omission and commission. When on April 4 it came to notice that the Ratna Bhandar key was missing, the State Government should have intervened soon. This is the first mistake.”

“The second mistake is that no FIR was lodged then nor the Chief Minister or his government initiated any preliminary investigation,” he added.

Reacting to Bijoy Mohapatra’s yesterday’s comment, the senior BJP leader remarked, “He (Bijoy Mohapatra) better knows whose language he is speaking, I don’t wish to comment on it. During my tenure I have made lots of reformations in Jagannath Temple. They have all been highlighted in the media. Bijoy Babu keeps abreast of all happenings and developments. I’m astonished to know how he couldn’t know about them. Those reformations and developments done then have never been done in the history of Odisha Law Department.”

“Despite all these, the way I have been criticized is unfortunate,” the former Law Minister remarked.

On the contrary, Bijoy Mohapatra countered, “He (Biswa Bhusan Harichandan) was the Law Minister and knows many things, It’s good. Yesterday I simply kept my opinions on Jagatguru Shankaracharya. I never uttered his name in my statement yesterday nor wanted to remark on his performance report. He shouldn’t take it personally as I have never uttered his name.”

“As a stature of Shankaracharya has given his opinions, I supported it and today too support. Jagatguru’s opinion must be honoured and also probe must be made. The State Government should probe into Shankarachary’s statements as it concerns the development of Puri Jagannath Temple,” the senior BJP leader stressed.
