Angul: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly beat his mother to death in an inebriated state as she denied him the widow allowance she had received. This horrifying incident occurred in Mahar Sahi under Jarapada police limits of Angul.

“Ranjan is an alcoholic. He always created nuisance in his family in a drunken state,” informed Sanjay Pradhan.

Notably, the old mother Surekha Mahar had received her widow allowance a day earlier. His alcoholic son Ranjan wanted that money for his alcohol consumption. But Surekha denied. So Ranjan thrashed her mercilessly.

“At around 3 pm, I saw him beating my mother. When I tried to stop him he started thrashing me. So I fled away in fear,” said Matadi, the sister of the accused.

The old woman died allegedly due to the kicks and blows rendered by his son.

After the unprecedented development, he hurriedly took the body to the backyard and tried to cremate it. The villagers smelled a foul play and informed the police.

As the police arrived, Ranjan fled the spot with his wife and daughter.

The police have started its investigation in the case.
