Kanpur: Just as an unfolding high-drama Bollywood movie, a college student named Varsha Sahu abducted the groom from his wedding venue at gun-point with the help of her aides, but later got arrested in a dramatic turn of events.

During interrogation, the girl has claimed that she did not kidnap the groom, but the latter went with her willingly as they were into an affair for the last 8 years. Notably, the man is a widower with two children. His parents wanted to solemnize this marriage against his wishes, according to some of his relatives. When the ‘Revolver Rani’ took away their son from the marriage pandal on Wednesday, they had lodged a complaint with the police.

The police recovered the groom from his native place in Banda district on Thursday. They have arrested an aide alongwith Varsha. The accused woman basically hails from Chattarpur district of MP (Madhya Pradesh), but presently lived with her mother and sister in Banda district. She is pursuing graduation from a local degree college and her father works in Hoshangabad.

Though Varsha denied carrying any firearms, as per the accounts of locals, she brandishing a firearm walked in with her six other armed -aides, dragged groom -Ashok, who was getting married to a girl -Bharti of Maudaha town of Hamirpur district, at the wedding venue, and sped away in a four-wheeler on Tuesday night.

"This man is having affair with me, and now he is betraying me by marrying another girl. But, I won't let this happen," she clarified at the venue before fleeing from the spot.

Varsha, however claimed that she did not kidnap the groom, but the latter went with her willingly.

"Why will I go there with a pistol when a person, whom I am in love with since the past eight years, was ready to flee with me," she said to the police.

According to Ramesh Kumar Singh, Deputy Superintendent of police, Maudaha, “Ashok Yadav, who has been recovered from his house, had allegedly developed affair with Varsha, who was employed in the same dispensary when he used to work as a compounder. Following a complaint by grooms father, a case has been lodged against Varsha and her one other aide Rahul, who has also been taken into police custody, under section section 363 of IPC. Further investigations are underway in this regard; more aides of Varsha are likely to be arrested soon. We will go through video footages to corroborate whether Varsha or her aides were equipped with firearms or not."

Varsha's "Revolver Rani" act has made headlines, though it is yet to be ascertained that was it an act of a ‘jilted lover’ or was it a pre-planned move of the groom to flee away from his marriage.
