Puri/Khurda: Gracing the state-level ‘Krushak Divas’ programme on the auspicious ‘Akshaya Trititya’ at Laxminarayanpur near Pipili in Puri district on Saturday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik stressed upon development of agriculture and farmers claiming that it has been on the top agenda of his government.
Flanked by Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy the Chief Minister said that the State Government run by him has set up two corpus funds of Rs 100 crore each for seeds and fertilizers while crop loan facility to the farmers has been made available at 1 percent interest.
The Agriculture Minister informed that the State Government is mulling to waive farm loan and make provisions for life insurance of farmers in the State.
Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan also took part in ‘Muthi Anukula’ (inaugural sowing of seeds) programme at Paniora in Khurdha district.
As per the age-old tradition of the agrarian festival, farmers of Odisha solemnised ‘Muthi Anukula’ on the auspicious occasion of ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ across the State.
The farming community clad in new attires worshipped the Mother Earth for a good harvest. They performed puja and sowed paddy seeds after ploughing.
