Bhubaneswar: The BJP literally cooled their heels at Bindusagar pond in Bhubaneswar on Thursday when they staged a Jal Satyagraha or ‘protest inside the pond’s waters’ on Thursday to voice their concerns about the pollution in the water body.
Scores of BJP workers under the tutelage of Sameer Mohanty, State Vice-President, BJP commenced their protest on Thursday morning accusing the state government and the Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation (BMC) in particular, of laxity in the restoration work of the pond.
The BJP believe a Pune-based firm had been assigned the task with a sum of Rs. 3.5 crore to clean the pond and the state government is not doing enough to carry out the cleaning project, they allege.
This ‘Jal Satyagraha’ is an important element of the national party’s week-long ‘Hak Ra Ladhei Jatra’ (Fight For Right March), which would see them carry out awareness gatherings in some 36,000 booths, 92,000 wards and 1001 mandals in the state, which is a sort of direct response to BJD’s ‘Jana Sampark Padayatra’ campaign, which concluded in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
