Anti-Liquor Protest By Women In Odisha, Demand Relocation Of Liquor Outlets

Kendrapada: The presence of two liquor outlets at the residential area of Angulai Chhak has attracted the ire of the womenfolk there. Hundreds of women took to the streets in protest and demanded relocation of the liquor shops is located close to school, temple and residences of people. They even blocked the Kendrapara-Orat road and staged hunger strike.

They alleged that no action had been taken to relocate the shops inspite of repeated requests to the district administration.

These women ransacked the closed shop and vandalized it under the leadership of Durgabati Pradhan, Sarpanch, Angulai panchayat.

The women tried to break in the closed shops in front of the police deployed.

The Tehsildar and IIC of the place reached the spot to pacify the agitators.

“The women were protesting to shift the liquor outlets. I have assured them that an enquiry will be conducted and we will inform the higher authorities who would take lawful decision and their pleas will be redressed,” said Chandrakant Panda, Tehsildar.
