Bhubaneswar: As a part of Green initiatives, 3294 bio-toilets have been installed in 895 coaches to maintain cleanliness at stations and tracks informed Umesh Singh, General Manager East Coast Railway during his interaction with media at Rail Sadan on Thursday.
10 trains connecting Puri with other religious places like Rameswaram and Dwarika have been converted into green trains with zero discharge.
Singh said that Odisha has received the highest budgetary allocation of Rs. 5102 Cr in 2017-18 and highlighted different progress of works of this zone.
Bhubaneswar New station will be opened soon and Wi-Fi facility will be provided at Sambalpur, Rayagada, Vijiyanagaram, Jagdalpur, Berhampur, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Srikakulam stations, the ECoR GM said.
He also informed that construction work of the new railway track connecting Nayagarh to Bhubanewsar would be completed by May this year. Similarly, the Railway has decided to complete the Khurda-Bolangir track work on a war footing.
In another major decision, the East Coast Railways has taken a decision to set up a new passenger halt at Bolagarh in Khurda district.
Passenger amenities like lifts and escalators have also been commissioned with 2 escalators and 3 lifts at Bhubaneswar station.
To promote cashless transaction at stations, the General Manager said that a total number of 124 POS machines have already been installed in 19 stations.
