Bhubaneswar: Unemployment and farmer issues stalled Odisha Assembly as opposition Congress and BJP created ruckus over the issues in the Question Hour following which the Speaker had to adjourn the House till 11.30 am and later extended till 12.00 noon and convened all party meeting in his chamber to resolve the stalemate. Later, the House was adjourned till 3 pm.

Later in his media reactions, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said, “We had moved an adjournment motion on precarious unemployment problems in the State. It is a very serious issue and it should have discussed in the Assembly. Yesterday during the Business Advisory Committee meeting, I had informed about it. Nobody had obejcted from the ruling party. But sad to note that the State Government is least interested in any sort of discussion on such serious issues in the House. Outside House, the ruling party boast of being ready to discuss all the issues as they have all the required answers, but inside House just the reverse.”

“The second issue is that of the farmers. Till date, the drought-hit farmers have not received their crop insurance compensation. This is also a serious issue. This was also protested during the Question Hour,” the Leader of Opposition informed media.

BJP MLA Rabi Narayan Naik said, “The farmers of 15 districts have been deprived of availing the benefits of total Rs 500 crore. Only Angul district reaped the benefit. Secondly, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme). The farmers are yet to get their due. Irate farmers are now on agitation in various areas. The farmers have also been deprived of availing Rs 8,500 input subsidy for 2 hectares of land. The State Government is yet to issue directive to the banks for long term loan relaxation.”

On the contrary, Government Chief Whip Amar Prasad Satpathy defended, “This Budget Session is a long session and there is ample scope for discussion. Lots of adjourment motions have been moved and taken up for discussion. When it will be feasible, the adjourment motion that the Leader of Opposition seeks to move can also be taken up for discussion. There is no bar.”
