Youth Shot Dead, Father Critical For Opposing Drugs Trade In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar:  A youth and his father who opposed drugs peddling in their village in Sarkantara on outskirts of the city was shot by unidentified miscreants today evening. The duo was rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar where the youth identified as Anil Jena succumbed. His father Abhimanyu Jena is battling with death.

The shooters came on a motorcycle and fired two rounds on Anil and his father near the latter’s home. According to sources, the father-son duo had been strong opponents of drugs trade in the area and raised voice against the illegal operation on multiple occasions.

The accused fled from the spot but abandoned the motorcycle a few metres away. A team of Khandagiri police rushed to the spot and started an investigation. The accused have been identified and a manhunt is on to nab them, police sources said.

Sources said a drugs mafia named Bapi had threatened Anil and his father on Wednesday for their opposition to the narcotic trade. "He had warned to eliminate them within 24 hours. This man is a notorious drugs peddler and was recently released from the jail," a local resident said.

Meanwhile, tension gripped Sarkantara village following the incident. Till last reports came, two platoons force was deployed in the area to check any untoward incident.
