Dhenkanal: In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old named Sangram Prusty was kidnapped by his friends in a bid to acquire a ransom of Rs 2 lakhs from his father Ganeswar Prusty. But they beat him with sticks to death in the fear of being identified and caught.

This incident occurred in Odisha’s Dhenkanal Sadar town of the district. According to reports, Sangram went missing on 3rd of December evening. His father Ganeswar tried to contact him but his phone was switched off.

“On the following day, I got a call for ransom of Rs 2 lakh at 7 am in the morning from the phone of my son. I went to the police. They tracked the number and found it switched on in Ganesh Bazar and near Synergy College. Then, they caught one of the accused who had made the ransom call,” informed Ganeswar Prusty.

Notably, three of his friends kidnapped him and beat him to death on the day of kidnapping. They called his father on the following day.

“The other two, Jituna and Raghuda, forced me to make me the call. I had seen them beating Sangram with sticks. Then he died. After police nabbed me, I showed them the place where the crime was committed and they recovered the body of the deceased. I don’t know why they did it, maybe they had some previous enmity,” said Ashok Ku Biswal, one of the accused.

The other two accused have been detained and interrogation is on. The body will be sent to post-mortem. The family has alleged kidnapping and murder and we are investigating the case,” informed Sheikh Abdul Karim, SDPO, Dhenkanal Sadar.
