Bhubaneswar: A day after a youth was hacked to death in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, Commissionerate Police nabbed the deceased's elder brother in connection with the incident.

The arrested has been identified as Shrasta Routray alias Mamulu, brother of deceased Pritam Routray. He was apprehended from Phulnakhara area on Sunday early morning, police officials informed. Cops also seized the weapon of offence and a motorcycle from him.

"The incident occured over family dispute. Pritam was a wayward and had committed several anti-social activities. There are many cases against his name," explained Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo.

"On June 5, Pritam had threatened to kill his father. On June 7, another scuffle ensued in their household and Pritam threatened to kill his elder brother Shrasta. Terrified of what might happen next, Shrasta purchased a sharp weapon from Rasulgarh. When he went back home, Pritam started a fight all over again. Shrasta was not able to tolerate this and he attacked Pritam, killing him on the spot," he added.

Following the death of Pritam near Puri Canal at Hanspal area under Balianta police limits on Friday night, the murder suspect was caught on camera. The visual showed the murderer walking with a sharp weapon in his hand and trying to flee the spot as soon as possible.

After investigation of the footage, the suspect was identified as his Pritam's elder brother and a manhunt was launched to nab him. After hiding in the railway station, Shrasta had escaped to Nakhara area where the cops caught hold of him.
