Youth Climbs Atop Puri Srimandir: Notice Issued To 3 Temple Cops

26 April 2019

Puri: Five days after a youth climbed atop the Puri Srimandir and removed the holy flag, Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) today issued notice to three personnel of Jagannath Temple Police (JTP). The officials have been asked to reply within 15 days.

Reportedly on 20 April, in a bizarre incident, a youth climbed atop the 12th century shrine and allegedly removed the holy flag (‘bana’) tied to the auspicious Nilachakra.

The youth, who hails from Bhadrak, is mentally unstable, informed cops. Singhadwara Police Station held the youth for further probe into the matter.

Following this, devotees and local residents questioned the security arrangements at the historic temple and expressed strong resentment.
