Worker Dies At Vedanta Plant In Odisha's Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: In a major accident, a worker died at the Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL) here today. The mishap took place at the railway siding site of the plant. The deceased was identfied as Mumtaz Khan.

According to reports, Khan was crushed in between two bogies of a cargo train while he was trying to establish a link between those.

Khan succumbed to the injuries while being shifted to VIMSAR, Burla. The incident triggered protests on the plant premises as the relatives of the victim and other workers demanded compensation for the deceased's family.

Official statement from Vedanta mentioned, "There was an unfortunate incident at the railway siding area of the plant wherein one of our workers lost his life. The exact cause of the incident is being investigated. We firmly stand with the bereaved family and are extending all possible support to them."
