Woman 'Raped' On NH 16: Accused's Family Counter Allegations

Bhubaneswar: In a twist to the alleged rape of a young woman in a car in Khurda, family members of the accused have asserted that the woman has levelled false charges against him over a monetary issue.

The accused's wife said that the woman had borrowed Rs 2000 from her husband few months back and had called him yesterday to return the money. She had asked him to come to a particular place near Khurda to take the money. When he arrived at the spot, the woman said she doesn't have any cash with her and asked to go to an ATM.

It was when they were going to an ATM she tore her dress and created a scene. The accused questioned her intentions and when he slowed down the vehicle she jumped out of the car.

Apprehending trouble the accused fled from the spot and reported the matter to his family members. He was detained while he was going to narrate the incident to the police, said his father.

As per Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Kumar Sahoo, the woman had been rescued and admitted at Khurda hospital last night. While recording her statement there she alleged the incident had occurred at Khandagiri.

Following it the case was transferred to Khandagiri Police Station based on which a case was registered and probe initiated to unravel truth behind the incident. While the statement of the woman will be recorded under Section 164 of CrPC, the accused has been detained and subjected to interrogation.

Sahoo further informed that the medical examination of the woman has been conducted in Khurda and the reports are awaited based on which the truth can be ascertained.
