Rayagada: A woman Maoist carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head surrendered with her newborn baby here on Thursday after she was fed up their fake ideologies, gender discrimination and when she was abandoned after she got pregnant.
Pratibha alias Rinky surrendered before Rayagada Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Saravana Vivek M at the district police headquarters.
Pratibha, a resident of Wacham in Bijapur district of neighbouring Chhattisgarh, had joined the Maoists in 2011. She was a member of the Indravati Dalam, Basadhara-Ghumusara and Nagavalli border division of the Maoists.
She was involved in several incidents of Maoist violence, which included two murders, encounters, and attacks. Pratibha was involved in 2013 Kadrakabandli exchange of fire, 2014 Damnapanga encounter, 2016 Dangamati exchange of fire, 2016 attack on a Special Operation Group (SOG) envoy near Jarapa, murder of a District Voluntary Force (DVF) jawan, the murder of two civilians in Kalahandi district in July this year- one Rajendra Sahu of Pahapadar village and of one Bhima Dora of Babupadar village.
Speaking on the matter, Rayagada SP said, “The woman Maoist surrendered in the CRPF Commander's and my presence. She was fed up of their fake ideologies, the subjugation of females and was finally fed up when she was abandoned after she got pregnant. She has also alleged harassment by the Maoists.”
Former Maoist Pratibha will be provided with a plot and with necessary monetary assistance as per the rehabilitation scheme of the Odisha government, informed Rayagada SP.
