Rayagada: A woman and her male friend were arrested for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to kill her two-year-old son and covering it up as an accident.

The accused Meena Das, even though married and a mother of two-year-old, was in a secret relationship with her cousin Parthasarathi Dhal for last few years, said Police reports. She stayed with her husband at Bhubaneswar’s Niladri Vihar. Sometime ago Meena ditched her husband and eloped to be with her paramour, said Police reports.

However, Parthasarathi was upset with Meena for bringing her son along with her, said Police reports. They reportedly had a huge fight and in a fit of rage, he hit the child. The minor could not survive the attack and passed away. To cover the whole matter, the duo took the child to District Headquarter Hospital (DHH), Rayagada and told doctor that the child had an accident and hence the injuries, said Police report.

The doctor declared the child ‘brought dead’ but sent the body for post mortem and also informed the Rayagada Town Police. The child’s autopsy revealed the cause of his death.

Speaking on the matter Rayagada SP Sarvana Vivek M said, “We received information of a medico-legal case regarding Unnatural Death (UD) of a minor. Based on the autopsy report we interrogated Meena and her male friend, where they eventually accepted to have killed Meena’s son and then attempted to cover it up.”

The Police arrested the accused Meena and Parthasarathi, and have forwarded them to court.
