Balasore: A woman, who claims to be the second wife of popular Odia jatra artist Daitari Panda, lodged a complaint against the latter at Simulia police station in Balasore district yesterday.

The woman, identified as Lata Mandal, alleged she developed a romantic relationship with Daitari during their long years of acting in jatras together. Despite being married, Daitari tied knots with her at Puri and had also fathered two children.

While her eldest son has died, the second child Sambhunath has completed his graduation and is staying with Lata at their residence in Jamujhadi.

It was after Daitari denied accepting Lata and her son, she moved the Bhadrak court and lodged a complaint against him at Simulia police station. She wants Daitari to accept Sambhu as his son and support her financially to run the family.

Meanwhile, Simulia Police Station Inspector-In-Charge Sanjay Parida said that a case number 275/18 has been registered based on Lata’s complaint and presently under investigation.

Despite attempts to contact Daitari Panda, he couldn’t be reached for comment.
