Witch-Hunt: Two Women Axed To Death, Another Injured Over Sorcery Suspicion In Odisha's Mayurbhanj

Mayurbhanj: In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old man murdered two women and injured another in cold blood on sorcery suspicion in Madhupur village today morning. The deceased have been identified as Kirmi Murmu and Surjya Murmu, while the injured Jaba Maske is undergoing treatment at Jamda hospital under Rairangpur block.

The accused identified as Shyam Baske surrendered before the police and confessed to the crime. Baske hacked the deceased duo with an axe and injured another woman by shooting an arrow at her.

The injured woman, Jaba is Baske’s grandmother. According to sources, Baske’s wife had five miscarriages in a row. He suspected the three woman of practicing witchcraft on his wife and decided to avenge the alleged sorcery.

This is the second incident of double-murder in Mayurbhanj district in past two weeks. On September 9, one Ratha Hembrem killed his brother Puna Hembrem (52) and the latter's wife Singha Hembrem (50) on sorcery suspicion.
