Bhubaneswar: Noted water conservationist Rajendra Singh, popular as Waterman of India, today paid a courtesy call on Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat here. Both held discussion in the Chief Minister’s Conference Room.

Soon after the significant meeting, the Waterman in his media reactions said, “Today I met CM Naveen Patnaikji. When I had met him last time, we had discussed on River Resolution Policy. Today I humbly reminded him about it and enquired about its status.”

“Today I requested him to have a water literacy movement among the mass as a solution to the water scarcity and its pollution in Odisha. Also there should be a Water Literacy Department because Odisha has enough water. But it is misused and mismanaged.”

“There is a need of adaptation and mitigation for the current climate change. That activity could be done through water literacy. If crop pattern and rain pattern are linked, we have to discharge less amount of underground water.”

“So he (Odisha CM) really agreed and very politely said yes to do this.”

On the River Resolution he explained, “In a bid to resolute the water bodies and rivers of Odisha, the respective land should be identified, demarcated and notified. It is because rivers are being subjected to rampant encroachment, pollution and extraction. The rivers need flow and for that it needs its land.”

“There should be a Mahanadi family between Odisha and Chhattisgarh so that it doesn’t turn to be a Cauvery dispute. Hence, it requires an exchange of dialogue both politically and socially,” the Waterman proposed.
