Bhubaneswar: The BJD Mahila Morcha Vice-President Sanjukta Mahal attempted to end her life last night out of desperation showcasing her sensitivity towards the allegations levelled on her by her own relations.

In a letter to the CM before the suicide attempt, she had clearly stated that her mother Mamta Patra, her brother Pradeep Patra, her sister-in-law Subhasmita and her sister Rashmita Mahapatra had defamed her and made her life a living hell.

“My brother used to look into my home affairs for a while but when I found indiscrepancies in his accounts, I removed him. He was working in Koraput but since last three years, he had using my name to extract his personal works. When she tried to stop him, he defamed me in public by spitting out venom for me. I tried to defend myself by informing everyone about his misbehaviour. I even knocked the doors of the court. However, he called for a press conference and alongwith my mother, sister and sister-in-law, made defamatory statements regarding me,” she told OMMCOM NEWS.

“My mother even alleged that I tortured and harassed her. The next thing I get to know that I am removed from the post of general secretary of the newly formed trade union wing ‘Biju Janata Dal Sramika Sammukhya’ due to these allegations,” she further added.

She was in a state of depression and took this drastic step to end her life by cutting the nerve of her wrist. But the timely intervention of the family members who rushed her to the hospital saved her life.

It is worth mentioning that she had been active member of the BJD party and was the vice-president of BJD Mahila Morcha since last 6 yrs.
