Why Amit Shah Remained Absent During Baijayant Panda’s BJP-Joining Ceremony Despite Being Present At Party Office?

04 March 2019

Bhubaneswar: Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda today formally embraced BJP at its New Delhi-based party headquarters in presence of Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, Odisha BJP president Basant Panda and Odisha BJP Legislature Party leader K.V. Singhdeo while BJP’s Odisha-in-charge Arun Singh presided over the joining ceremony.

On the contrary, BJP national president Amit Shah was conspicuous by his absence on the occasion even though he was very much present in his chamber at the party office there.

Political experts argued that this is evident from Arun Singh’s announcement soon after the formal joining.

Singh announced as well as requested media persons for coverage of Jay Panda paying a courtesy call on Amit Shah in his official chamber. Panda was also seen offering a bouquet to Amit Shah.

Delving into such a queer development, political analysts here are of the view that Amit Shah could have been personally present as had been during former Odisha cadre IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi’s joining BJP last year. Aparajita was seen joining BJP in the very presence of Amit Shah, though at his residence, while Jay Panda’s case has left behind several question marks.

Now the million dollar question arises if BJP is treading the political line with Jay Panda cautiously as he is an ousted BJD MP. He had been suspended from BJD for his ‘anti-party’ activities and was later bound down to quit the party as well as Lok Sabha after so many months of disciplinary action taken against him by the BJD leadership.

Political experts opine that Amit Shah in Jay Panda’s case perhaps opt for maintaining a check and balance political strategy keeping in mind the possible ally BJD post general elections in case of a hung parliament.
