Sambalpur: With posters reading ‘Western Odisha Unity Long Live’ and ‘We Demand Permanent Bench Of High Court In Western Odisha’, the law students held a bike rally across the city and members of Western Odisha Bar Association staged a relay hunger strike here today.

The lawyers and the agitating students are pressing for their longstanding demand to set up a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in western Odisha.

On October 25, the District Judge along with other judges of the District & Sessions Judge Court was debarred from entering the court premises by the agitating lawyers.

Since the indefinite stir came into force from September 5 and has been continuing, not only works at the District Court but also at the District Collectorate, Northern Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC)’s office, Sub-Collector’s office, Tehsil office, Regional Transport Office (RTO), etc have adversely been affected due to picketing by the striking lawyers of Sambalpur District Bar Association.

On the contrary, the agitating lawyers are hell bent on not to budge and further intensify their ongoing strike till the State Government and Central Government take a concrete decision on the fulfillment of the longstanding demand for establishing a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in the western Odisha region.
