**Keonjhar:** When the world has ushered into the 21st century, a dead man in the tribal village of Bardapal in Odisha’s Keonjhar district was denied to be shouldered by the villagers as he suffered from an oral disease which left his tongue infested with worms during his death.
As per a superstitious belief in the village, a man who has always lied in his life is punished by the Gods by infesting his tongue with worms. So they did not agree to shoulder the dead body to the cremation ground in the village.
Seeing no way out, his only son Pradeep Behera summoned his minor cousin from the nearby village who came and helped him to carry on the last rites.
The whole village stood as mute spectator as the two young lads carried the dead body for cremation with the help of a sling, with the wife and daughter of the man wailing in grief.
