Bhubaneswar: Away from home, one longs to feel the essence and spirit of motherland. To make the Odias in Pune feel at home, Kalinga Swaraj organized a grand Odia New Year celebration on the occasion of ‘Maha Vishuba Sankranti’ or ‘Pana Sankranti’ on Sunday.
With much religious fervor, hundreds of Odia people gathered at the Shiva temple in Pashan area and relished an authentic Odia meal. They also consumed the refreshing and sumptuous ‘Bela Pana’ that provided the people with much need relief from heat.
Like every other year, Srikshtera Mitra Mandal organized a Bhajan evening and people sang in unison to the religious tunes. Despite being several thousands of kilometers away from home, they felt the camaraderie and the essence of Odisha.
On Sunday, it was the dawn of a New Year in Odisha marking the beginning of a new Panjika, which is the yearly calendar of Odia festivals, timings and predictions. In celebration of the New Year and on the occasion of Maha Vishuba Sankranti or Pana Sankranti, people across the State thronged various temples and relished the sumptuous ‘Bela Pana’- wood apple, fruits and sugar.
