Ganjam: While voters lined up to cast their votes across 5 Lok Sabha and 35 Assembly Constituencies in Odisha today, booth number 124 in Hinjilikatu here stood out for being exclusively run by women security personnel and women polling parties.

The purpose of these ‘pink polling booths’ had been started by Election Commission to showcase the abilities and engender a sense of woman empowerment. The staffs and security personnel at these booths are all women. Pink color is commonplace at these booths. Special arrangements are also done at these booths for pregnant women, Persons with Disabilities (PwD), among others.

While 19 such booths have been set up in national capital New Delhi, Sikkim has 30 and Ranchi has a whopping 198. Such booths have also been set up at Mizoram, Punjab, Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Odisha.
