Paradip: The decked up port city is celebrating the Biswakarma Puja amidst much fervor and fanfare as devotes throng to the colourful pandals set up by various industries and trade unions to commemorate the Lord of mechanics and architecture.
Mammoth pandals have been set up by Paradip Port’s electrical department, PHD and Marine department along with various trade unions like Paradip Port Workers’ Union, Paradip Port and Dock Mazdoor Union, Utkal Port and Dock Workers’ Union.
Other industry giants like IFFCO, Paradip Carbon, L&T, ESSAR, Indian Oil Corporation and Cargil India have also lent their contribution in the festivities.
As per the information, around 50 big and small puja pandals have been set up in the port city this year to celebrate Biswakarma Puja in a grand manner.
The ritual of worshipping tools and machineries in factories, garages, engineering institutes and workshops is followed by cultural programs in the evening that port city’s denizens enjoy amidst communal harmony.
When Paradip Port became functional in 1963, people from different communities joined hands to organise the celebrations with the objective of maintaining communal harmony among the residents.
The worship of Lord Biswakarma ushers in the festive season in Paradip and the festivities continue for more than a week in the port city with a mass immersion ceremony marking its end.
