Malkangiri: Ajay Kumar Mallick, Assistant Commissioner of CT & GST (Commercial Tax & Goods and Services Tax) in Malkangiri was on Friday caught red-handed by officers of Vigilance, Koraput Division for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 in order to reactivate a Registration Certificate.
Reportedly, Manoj Kumar Debanath, Proprietor of M/s Bholanath Bastralaya in Malkangiri, had lodged a Vigilance complaint against Mallick accusing the latter of demanding the said amount. Following it a trap was laid on Friday afternoon and as per direction of Mallick, Debanath kept the bribe amount on a file which the accused thereafter removed and kept beneath the file.
Vigilance officers recovered and seized the bribe money in presence of witnesses. Mallick's left hand wash as well as contacted portion of file wash gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Till filing of the news, Mallick's residential house and official quarter at Malkangiri were being searched. He has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court. In this connection a case under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered and is under investigation.
