Vigilance Arrests Lift Irrigation SDO On Graft Charges In Odisha's Nabarangpur

Umerkote: Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation (OLIC) Sub-Division in Umerkote of Nabarangpur district was held by vigilance sleuths on Saturday while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 8000 from four farmers for issuing feasibility report for installation of Bore wells.

Reportedly on Friday, SDO Bharat Kumar Mandal had demanded Rs 2000 each from Sunadhar Pakul, Balaram Khara, Rabindra Guga and Durjyadhan Guga of Pupuldihi village under Raighar block of the district.

Based on a complaint lodged by the Sunadhar,Vigilance officers of Koraput Division, led by Nabarangpur DSP Pramod Bag, laid a trap and nabbed Mandal while accepting the bribe money.

The money was recovered from the pant pocket of Mandal and seized in presence of witnesses. His both hands wash as well as pant pocket wash gave positive chemical reaction confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.

Later, his paternal house at Chakrada village under Basta police limits of Balasore district, building at Balasore Town and rented residential house at Umerkote were being searched.

Mandal has been booked under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act and will be court forwarded.
