Ganjam: Engulfing several valuable properties, a major fire broke out at a branch of Bank of India (BOI) at Pailipada under Gangpur police limits here late last night.

Reportedly, locals spotted flames from the cash room of the bank at around 3 am in the night and intimated the cops and fire services personnel. However, the flames had already gutted assets worth lakhs including furniture, computers, cash counter, documents, and electronic goods, before the officials could reach the spot and douse the fire.

Though the exact reason behind the outbreak of fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that electrical short circuit might have led to the mishap.
