Two Suspected Child Lifters Thrashed, Handed Over To Police In Odisha

Sundergarh: Child abduction claims have created a state of panic in Nuagaon block here and in result two youth have been thrashed by the locals and handed over to the Police in two consecutive days.

On Wednesday night, a reportedly mentally unstable youth from Jharkhand’s Parba village was apprehended by few locals at Kokerama bazaar under Hatibari Police Outpost. The locals suspected the youth of abducting children and was hence beaten up mercilessly.

Hatibari Police arrived on spot but the locals were wild with fury and it took Police four hours to just take the suspect into their custody. He was later admitted to Hatibari Community health center.

In yet another incident today, locals of Menmena panchayat caught hold of a youth on suspicion of child lifting. They thrashed him before handing him over to the Police. The second suspect too has been admitted to Hatibari Community health center.

Hearsay about child abduction has caused a stir across Sundergarh and adjoining Rourkela district since the last 15 days. An investigation is underway.
