Rourkela/Malkangiri: At least six persons were killed and 10 others injured in two separate road mishaps in Rourkela and Malkangiri of Odisha on Sunday.

Two girls lost their lives after the scooter they were travelling on was hit by a speeding truck near TCI Chowk under Brahmani Tarang police limits in Rourkela.

As the identities of the girls have not been ascertained, their bodies have been stored in the morgue of Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) after post-mortem.

While the driver of the truck fled from the spot after the mishap, Brahmani Tarang police has seized the vehicle and initiated a probe into the matter.

Similarly in Malkangiri, five persons were killed and 10 others injured after the Tata Magic they were travelling in turned turtle near Salappadar under Mathili police station.

Reportedly, the vehicle was on its way to Mathili from Pangam when the mishap occurred. The injured have been admitted to Mathili hospital.

Following the tragic incident, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today expressed deep grief and condoled the deaths and sympathised with bereft families.

The Chief Minister also announced Rs 2 lakh ex gratia for each of the deceased's kin.

Besides wishing speedy recovery, he has also directed for the free treatment of those injured and hospitalised.
