Cuttack: Odia cricketers Somen Chand and Biswajit Mallick have been banned by the BCCI from the domestic circuit for the next two seasons after being found guilty of fudging their ages in Under-23 tournament.

Chand and Mallick, who are registered with the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), have been disqualified by the BCCI with immediate effect and banned from participating in 2021-22 and 2022-23 domestic cricket seasons. A senior OCA official confirmed the developments.

The duo was in Kolkata for a tournament. They have been called back.

However, a minor relaxation to players charged with age fudging is that they can play in interclub matches or tournaments. As per the earlier ban, cricketers found guilty of age fraud, birth certificate tampering were suspended/ banned from playing BCCI matches in the two-year period of his/her ban. This rule was modified on June 29 in Delhi in a meeting of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators.
