Angul: Two persons have been killed after being allegedly attacked by wild elephants at Suleipal village under Kaniha block of Angul district on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Debraj Samal and Sudhakar Mohanty.

Reportedly, after being attacked by a wild elephant, Debraj managed to flee from the spot. However, as his condition was critical he was admitted to Talcher sub-divisional hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

On the other hand, when Sudhakar had not returned home yesterday, his family members searched for him and found his body near a bush. They alleged that he was also a victim of elephant attack.

The incident has created an environment of gloom and discontentment in the area as elephant menace has become a regular affair with loss to precious life and property. The villagers have alleged that the forest department is not taking any appropriate step in this regard.

However, the forest department officials have denied that the two died in elephant attack as presently no movement of the animals have been noticed in the area. The reason behind the death will be ascertained only after post-mortem, they added.
