Two Held For Impersonating Cops To Extort Money In Rayagada

Rayagada: Two persons, including one juvenile, who impersonated as policemen to extort money from one Brundaban Padhy (46) in Therubali of Rayagada district were nabbed by a special team of police on Thursday.

As per a complaint lodged by Padhy at Bissamcuttack Police Station on Wednesday, he along with one of his lady relatives were proceeding to Kalyansinghpur on January 10 and at about 1 PM they were taking food near Therubali when the two accused came towards them identifying as Policemen.

Gouri Hial (28) and other juvenile accused then took the photos and video of Padhy and the lady and then assaulted them, abused them in filthy languages and demanded them Rs 1 lakh. They threatened that they will make their photo and video viral, defame them and also kill them.

Afraid of their self-image, Padhy gave them Rs 50,000 and assured them to pay remaining Rs 50,000 due to fear. After he lodged a complaint with police, a special team of police including Bissamcuttack PS IIC Jaswant Hial, Chandili PS IIC Ajit Kumar Swain and other staff was formed and investigation was launched immediately.

During the course of investigation, the accused Gouri was arrested yesterday and forwarded to the court. The other juvenile accused was sent to the CJM-cum-PMJJB, Rayagada, following due procedure. Both the accused belong to Banapur village under Bissamcuttack police limits of the district.

Police also seized two motorcycles, one Hero Honda Glamour bearing number OD 18F 6196 and one Yamaha FZ-S bearing number OD 18G 3737, and three mobile phones from the possession of the accused.
