Berhampur: Ganjam Collector on Monday felicitated two doctors for helping a pregnant woman deliver her baby on roadside on August 23 as she suddenly went into labour near Courtpeta Chhak in Ganjam.

Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange felicitated doctors Rounak Gandhi and Debadarshini Sahu with a shawl and bouquet and while appreciating their work and urged media to encourage such acts by the medical fraternity.

Both Rounak and Debadarshini are endocrinology superspeciality students at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

As per reports, the expecting mother K Parvati had travelled from Samantiapalli village in a bus and was only half-a-kilometer away from the hospital when she suddenly went into labour and was not able to bear the pain anymore.

Dr Debadarshini rushed for Parvati's help and also called her colleague Dr Rounak, who rushed to the spot with necessary materials. Dr Smruti of MKCG Hospital was also present at the spot and helped in the indigenous procedure.

It was because of their efforts that a healthy baby girl was born. Soon after that, ambulance arrived at the spot and rushed the mother and her baby to MKCG hospital.
