Bhubaneswar: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Rajendra Prasad Sharma, while gracing the occasion of 11th Raising Day of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack (Twin City) Commissionerate of Police on Thursday, felicitated the cops who have proved to be true "People's Police" through their acts of bravery and kindness.

The felicitated cops include woman Traffic Constable Rajalaxmi Baliarsingh of Bhubaneswar UPD and Havildar Babula Sahoo of OSAP 7th Battalion.

Rajalaxmi had earlier received a Letter of Appreciation and Rs 1000 prize money from Twin City Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty for her humanitarian gesture for helping a differently-abled (visually impaired person) cross the extremely busy street at AG Square while no vehicle was applying brake for paving his path.

Babula was part of the team which rescued a woman from drowning in the Kuakhai River. He alongwith his team had been deployed to fish out dead bodies of some school students when they noticed a woman crying for help. Babula jumped into the river, rescued the woman and brought her ashore.

In the special event held today at OSAP 7th Battalion Parade Ground here, the DGP said, "Since its inception in 2008, the Commissionerate Police has achieved many milestones. In the meantime many good works have been done for the public but more needs to be done. Providing service of the best quality to public is our primary goal. Concerted efforts are on by Commissionerate Police for this purpose."
