Malkangiri: Hundreds of tribals had gathered in a 'Praja Meli' (public meeting) in Malkangiri district on Tuesday demanding to declare Muduliguda as a separate gram panchayat.

The tribal leaders attending the meeting alleged that for reaching Muduliguda village under Nakamamudi panchayat of the district one has to catch a launch from Dyke III village.

Muduliguda villagers have to cross around 60 kilometres of waterway every month to reach the panchayat for receiving PDS rice, old age pension and other works.

Villagers of around four panchayats have demanded that Muduliguda be declared as a separate gram panchayat to facilitate the benefits.
