Bargarh: Tension escalated in front of the district Collector’s office after a group of tribals staged a protest demanding immediate arrest of Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher.

Meher had forced a PWD Junior Engineer belonging to the tribal community to do situps as a punishment for bad road work. This act enraged the tribal community which has been demanding the arrest of the legislator for the last four days.

Today, as the police was trying to placate the protestors a scuffle ensued between the two parties. The situation was brought under control after additional forces were mobilised to the spot.

Earlier in the day, the activists took out a rally to the Collectorate holding traditional weapons and playing musical instruments. They later had a face-off with the cops when they attempted to barge into the office.
