Bhubaneswar: With general elections round the corner, tug of war for party tickets once again dominated the scene here at capital city of Odisha.

Row over bagging party tickets has been witnessed in almost all the parties, especially the major parties like Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

The State headquarters of both the national parties, Congress and BJP, have already been targeted by the irate supporters of respective contenders who have been deprived of tickets. Both the party offices have already borne the brunt of the ire of the beleaguered Congress and BJP ticket aspirants.

This bug of discontentment has also not spared the ruling BJD as BJD supremo-cum-Odisha Chief Minister’s residence Naveen Niwas also witnessed the commonplace ticket spat but with non-violence. BJD workers and supporters from Niali and Banki assembly segments under Cuttack parliamentary constituency and Jaleswar assembly segment from Balasore parliamentary constituency were seen today here tussling among themselves.

In her media reactions, one Surekha Behera from Niali assembly constituency said, “We want Trupti Ranjan Behera should be fielded as our party MLA candidate instead of the sitting party MLA Pramod Mallick.”

“While Naveen Patnaik is according honour to the women, Pramod Mallick isn’t. Hence, Trupti Ranjan Behera should be given ticket,” she demanded.

Khetrabasi Dash from Banki assembly constituency said, “The person who has damaged the dignity of Banki, shouldn’t be given ticket. It is being heard that his son is going to be given ticket in his place. We vehemently protest it. We demand that Naveen Babu restore the lost pride and prestige of Banki. No one from his (Prabhat Tripathy’s) family should be given party ticket.”

“Whoever will be the new candidate, we will humbly accept it. Because, vote is in favour of Naveen Babu and conch symbol not in favour of any other person or candidate. And our fresh candidate will definitely win,” the BJD worker claimed.

Prasanna Dutta from Jaleswar assembly segment (Balasore parliamentary constituency) said, “Aswini Patra is an MLA who has got defeated thrice and also won thrice. Whenever he has betrayed BJD, he has lost the election.”

“If he is fielded as the MLA candidate, we the active workers of BJD will field our independent candidate and get his security forfeited this time. As Rabindra Jena is the president of District BJD, we are in the party. We want that minus Aswini Patra and Raghunath Mohanty any other candidate, especially youth, should be fielded and we will actively support and get our party win this election,” he demanded.
