Bhubaneswar: Every time you do a good deed you shine the light a little farther into the dark. This can be said of those persons go out of the way to selflessly help people in distress.
In 2019, there were numerous incidents of such people but we have handpicked a few selfless deeds which inspired us.
1: Doctors are considered as incarnations of God by people as they save the patients with their expertise. When a doctor in Ganjam helped a pregnant lady deliver her baby on roadside in the indigenous procedure and ensured sanity and safety of the mother-daughter duo, he won hearts of many.
2: We all know that teachers play a vital role in helping kids achieve their worth. Rathiapal, a small nondescript village of Dhenkanal has been blessed with such a teacher who has been fighting against all odds to educate the children. She even wades through waist-deep, sometimes neck-deep water of a river to reach her pupils at the Government-run primary school. Not a single day off, she has ensured that the attendance of the children never falls.
3: When two sisters risked their life to save around 10 people from drowning in a tragic boat capsize incident at Mahanadi river confluence in Odisha’s Kendrapada, it came into notice of the authorities and they were felicitated by CM Naveen Patnaik. It was their sheer valour that they jumped into the crocodile-infested portion of the river in cold wintry night to save people.
4: In remote Malkangiri area, when an orphan’s condition worsened and ambulance could not reach his village due to bad roads, an AROGYA plus doctor and an ambulance driver went out of their way to fulfil their duties. They carried the patient on a sling for 5 kms till the main road, after which the ambulance took the patient to the nearest hospital.
5: When Niranjan Reddy, an ace sports journalist of Odia media bagged the State award for scriptwriting in a regional film, he came into limelight.
His never-say-die spirit is inspirational, as he strived hard to carve a niche not only in his own profession but in a totally diverse field of creativity.
6: When Odisha's ace shuttler Pramod Bhagat clinched a gold in the World's championship along with Manoj Thakur, he stood as an inspiration for many such differently able people.
