Malkangiri: A unique tradition of lashing fellow villagers to put all grudges of the year at rest is followed by people of Didai tribe at Arangi under Khairput block of Malkangiri district on every Makar Sankranti.

In order to reconcile all the aggrieved villagers and resolve all the differences of the year, the natives gather at a place and lash each other with palm tree sticks. Then they pay a visit to the village goddess with the sticks and pray that all live peacefully both in joy and sorrow.

Following it all the villagers together with their family and friends organise a feast where they drink palm wine and eat any non-vegetarian food. People from far off places visit the village to observe the tradition.
