Angul: Swine flu scare has gripped Angul district after blood samples of three persons, including a woman and a 10-year-old child, were found H1N1 positive.

Reportedly, a private school teacher died while undergoing treatment in Angul hospital last week and after two days his wife also breathed her last at Kalinga Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

After receiving information about their mysterious death, Angul ADMO (P.H) Rakesh Ku Sahoo met their family members and checked health reports of the deceased.

The reports confirmed it as swine flu related deaths following which blood samples of 18 persons, who were in regular contact with the dead couple, was sent to Regional Medical Research Center at Bhubaneswar for testing.

After the reports confirmed that a man, a woman and a child were affected with swine flu, they were given the required medicine. Their family members and neigbours have also been administered with vaccine and made aware about the disease.

Angul CDMO Amarendra Nath Mohanty said that equipments to collect and test blood samples for swine flu have been made available at the district headquarters hospital (DHH). Presently, the situation is under control in the area from where the case was reported and also in adjoining areas.
