Suspected Cash-In-Transit Heist Foiled By Odisha Crime Branch STF

Bhubaneswar: Four notorious dacoits were held by the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch while they were planning to commit a cash-in-transit heist in Khurda town on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off about a group of criminals preparing to commit dacoity of cash worth of Rs 10 lakh in transit by SHG group in Khordha Town, the STF conducted a raid and apprehended four persons while five others were able to flee from the spot.

The arrestees were identified as Sana alias Dushasan Behera, Hemant Nayak, Jagan alias Nihar Ranjan Samantray and Lipu alias Mohammed Basir. One 9 MM pistol, 5 rounds of live ammunition, one sword (kati) and one black colour Hero Splender Plus motor cycle bearing Regd No OD 02 AZ 8681 were seized from their possession. None of them could produce any valid license or authority in support of such possession of illegal fire arms.

While the STF has registered a case against the nine accused persons under section 399/402 IPC/25/27 Arms Act, 1959, the four were forwarded to Court of Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM), Khurda today. Efforts are on to arrest other accused persons.
