Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court today rejected two pleas seeking stay on Puri administration’s eviction drive being undertaken in compliance with the recent Cabinet decision of Odisha Government.

As per reports, the apex court’s three-member bench also directed Puri Jagannath Temple amicus curiae Ranjit Kumar and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to visit Puri and take stock of situation and submit a report about the latest development.

The bench dismissed the two pleas filed before it appealing for a stay order on the demolition drive being undertaken by the Puri district administration soon after the State Cabinet on August 16 directed it to comply with the decision as per the recommendations made by Justice B.P. Das Commission’s recommendations on the safety and security of Shree Jagannath Temple.

The Supreme Court’s three-member bench dismissed both the petitions after taking Odisha Advocate General’s submission.

The next date of hearing on Puri Jagannath Temple matter has been posted to September 17.
