Successful Negotiation With IOCL Over VAT Very Satisfying Moment For Me: Outgoing Odisha CS AP Padhi

Bhubaneswar: On the last day of his office at the Odisha Lok Seba Bhawan (State Secretariat), outgoing Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi today shared his farewell address with media as he is all set to assume office as the new State Election Commissioner on Monday next week (August 19).

Interacting with media, Padhi said, “Personally I think that the successful negotiation with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) over VAT is a very satisfying moment for me. Because, the State Government is able to execute various developmental activities as it is able to save about Rs 2000-2500 crore annually. The VAT that we were sacrificing could now be saved. ”

He informed, “I will be assuming office as the State Election Commissioner on August 19. During my tenure in the last two years and eight months, my main role as the Chief Secretary was to coordinate various departments so that the priority programmes of the State Government could be successfully implemented at the field level. In this exercise, I have received cooperation of all. Under the strong leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister, our State Government has prospered at many fronts. In the past it has been, in future also it will prosper.”

He also informed, “Within the last four years, good work has been done in all sectors. All have done giving their best efforts. If I would like to cite any particular area, the State has achieved stupendous success in the rural housing sector. The all India position was No 1 for two consecutive years. Similarly, drinking water supply in the rural belt. The State has also achieved remarkable success in this area. In the next 3-4 years, our target is to supply each household with pipe water. The State Government has allocated sufficient funds for it. Our field staffs are also one their move.”

Padhi stated, “Basic health service delivery has also marked remarkable progress. Mainly in IMR, MMR, the reduction rate. Institutional delivery has increased. Also supply of free medicine. Malaria has been checked to a large extent. Odisha has been honoured by the World Health Organisation.”

He further stated, “In the field of Disaster Management, Hon’ble Chief Minister has been laying stress on it since he has joined office. In the last four years, the cyclones starting for Phailin, Hudhid, Titli have been faced successfully. It has also earned accolades at the world forum.”

Also added, “In sports, Odisha is now considered as a top performer State in the entire country. Top notch events like World Cup Hockey and Asian Athletics Championship have been successfully organized by the State Government. To make sports more popularized, several steps have been taken and academies set up.”

“After this new Government was formed, focus is on public service delivery. As per the direction of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, public service is the Government’s top priority,” remarked the top bureaucrat.
